Baker Mayfield is attempting to clear the air after allegedly saying he’d “f*** up” the Cleveland Browns in Week 1… claiming he didn’t even come close to hurling the bulletin board material.
Cynthia Frelund of NFL Media reported earlier this week that she spoke with the new Carolina Panthers quarterback after their preseason game against the Buffalo Bills… and that he told her he was going to get revenge on his former team with an NSFW statement.
It’s a remark that almost certainly riled up his former teammates, with Myles Garrett declaring that the Browns would “take it and use it.”
Baker, on the other hand, spoke with the media at practice on Wednesday, and he claims the conversation did not go as Frelund claimed.
“First and foremost, I did not say it,” Baker told reporters.
“That is not how I put it. That is not what I said.”
Bake claims he “didn’t even say anything” other than wanting to win in Week 1… which isn’t nearly as startling as the initial claim.
If Mayfield is telling the truth, it was a pretty credible quote – after all, this is the guy who was drafted first overall in 2018 but still played with a chip on his shoulder.
Frelund, for her part, later admitted she should have kept the conversation private… but stood by her intention, which was to show her support for the quarterback.
Something tells us the Browns will still be fired up come September 11.
